Over 10 different sustainable peat free potting mixes for indoor plants.
This soil makes up for what typical potting soil lacks by being designed to be species specific to match each plants needs by mimicking the soil it is accustomed to growing in originally.
Created without the use of peat moss which is a mined non renewable product of the nursery industry.
Our soils contain mycorrhizae fungi for added root growth and encouragement of full growth potential, so if you see a “white fuzz” on top of your soil - please know that this is beneficial and this will re-absorb back into the soil!

Fun facts and care guide
Pitcher plants are one of the most dramatic and eye-catching carnivorous plants. They make for a curious and interesting houseplant. Pitchers are surprisingly easy to care for when a few strict guidelines are followed.
The name Nepenthe derives from ancient Greek mythology as the “ drug to quiet all pain and strife, and bring forgetfulness of every ill “, mentioned in Homer’s The Odyssey (wikipedia).
This is a nontoxic plant, but common sense dictates a clear No on drinking any of the liquid they produce.
Nepenthes are native to Southeast Asia and are most abundant in Borneo. Many hybrids have been created—more than a hundred— for collecting and easy houseplant use.
With unique leaves that have a winding tendril (epiphyte) at the tip that will wrap around a support and develop into a pitcher, the plant produces a nectar along the slippery/spiny rim (peristome) that attracts insects to fall into the trap, where they are digested and turned into fertilizer through an enzyme liquid.
Some species and hybrids have very large pitchers that can hold a quart of liquid and digest rodents and also provide shelter for bats.
Grow them indoors only, unless you live in a tropical climate.
A humidifier would be beneficial for good pitcher production but is not required.
Lighting: The most important factor to produce pitchers.
They do best with several hours of very bright light and a couple of hours of direct sun (but not scorching).
An unobstructed south-or east-facing window is best. Supplement with a grow light, especially during dark winter months.
Temp: 65- 75 degrees F, protect from drafts
Water: NO tap water, low mineral content, only use distilled, reverse osmosis filtered.
Keep soil damp to the touch, water from the top only, never leave in standing water.
Feeding: Light is the pitcher plant’s main source of energy. Never use traditional plant fertilizers. It will attract its own fertilizer by attracting little bugs from around the house.
After awhile, If it is looking like the pitchers are not attracting insects, then go ahead and supplement with a mealworm, cricket, or other juicy bug once a month, one per pitcher. Please don’t feed any carnivorous plant hamburger meat, or any other human food, unless you do eat crickets or mealworms.
Soil: Use only nutrient-free, well-drained soil for good aeration. Equal parts long-fiber sphagnum moss and small pumice stone or perlite works well.
Repot every two years or so, or if you suspect the soil has gone foul (sometimes damp moss can create algae and an odor), or if the plant outgrows its pottery.
Use only plastic or glazed pottery with drainage holes.
Repot carefully. The roots are delicate.
Propagation: If it starts to get too large, cut back the vines at a count of three leaves from the tip of each section. Pruning can encourage new growth as well.
Place your propagations into a fresh soil blend.
Enjoy these beautiful plants. They will keep you in awe! -
Over a hundred species of sundews and butterworts (pings) are found on every continent—except Antarctica—in open, sunny, boggy habitats and wet hillside seeps.
Flytraps are native to North Carolina and grow in open, sunny, boggy fields while also getting their needed dormancy in the cold winter season (they are not tropical plants).
You can grow them indoors until you need to give a cold dormancy, but it is preferable to grow them outdoors in a very sunny area, year round in glazed pottery with a drain hole, and set in a dish of rain water or purified water. Hardy in brief freezes of under 20 degrees F, they need shelter from winds in extended freezing weather.
Sundews and pings grow very well indoors in open terrariums or potted with carnivorous plant soil. These plants do not need a cold dormancy.
Some sundews can live and thrive outside year round through mild winters and will return strong in the spring.
Water: Use only distilled water, R/O water, or rain water. They like wet soil—use pots with drain holes and set your plant in a tray or dish with about an inch or two of purified water.
Light: Grow in full sun with a minimum of six hours of direct sun (not scorching), or use a high-quality grow light.
Soil: Use nutrient-free carnivorous plant soil only.
Fertilizer: They catch their own fertilizer (bugs). If you don’t have many bugs inside for them to catch, you can supplement with a dilution of 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water with MaxSea fertilizer 16-16-16. Lightly mist the leaves once per month.
Do not use on pings; use a dilution of Shultz cactus fertilizer instead. -
Once purchased the longevity is up to you and we encourage you to research and ask questions.
We source and repot healthy plants with quality specialized soil blends. If something does come up or doesn’t meet your expectations, we will accommodate the issue best we can.
Please do not wait, the earlier you address an issue the better.
